I like the way the writers use the alcohol metaphor throughout the song (especially on the chorus, where different features of different liquors are referenced), and they strike a nice balance between the bleakness of the past and the brightness of the present (which Cobb and Stapleton pretty much ignore). This may well be is the grandfather of all “love as a drug” songs: The narrator was once caught in the grips of alcoholism, but they have now found a partner and a romance so powerful that no artificial high could ever match the way they feel now. It’s not a terrible performance, but it doesn’t fit the song particularly well, and leaves the audience reaching for the previous covers instead.Īfter this many years, there isn’t a whole lot to say about the lyrics beyond noting that there’s a reason the song has been covered this many times. (For a guy who’s ecstatic over his partner, he really doesn’t sound like it.) While he attempts to inject some energy into the song via his incredible vocal power, it’s not enough to overcome the trudging tempo and darker tone. Stapleton, however, follows the lead of the production, and leans into the melancholy vibe almost exclusively throughout the song. The problem, however, is that pain is only half of the equation here: The narrator is supposed to be celebrating his new relationship that is rescuing him from his alcoholic vices. His range, tone, and vocal charisma remains unmatched in country music, and he does a great job taking the narrator’s pain and sharing it with the listener. Speaking of Stapleton, he is who he is at this point, and thankfully “who he is” is pretty darn good. I know Cobb didn’t want to step on Stapleton’s lines, but come on, you can’t make Stapleton do everything for you. (The fuller piano/string arrangements that Jones leaned on swing more in the opposite direction and favor the good over the bad, which connects with the listener more effectively.) The tempo on Stapleton’s version is also a major problem: It’s less than half of what Coe and Jones were using, and that snail’s pace saps the song of all its energy and makes it drag on and on until the listener is begging for another song to start and end their suffering. Outside of the bass, nothing here feels necessary or makes a meaningful contribution to the mood, and while the resulting atmosphere is bluesy and captures the narrator’s prior melancholy, its dark, foreboding tone doesn’t reflect the narrator’s newfound lovestruck joy at all. It’s one thing to stay out of the singer’s way, however, and another to be sidelined so much that you don’t add anything to the mix. Producer Dave Cobb seems to favor sparse, simple arrangements when working with Stapleton (why get in the way of his critically-acclaimed voice?), and the production here is no different: You’ve got a few guitars (an acoustic one for the verses, a slick electric one to provide some simple atmospheric stabs are a barely-there solo, and a deep-voiced axe that opens the song and fills time between vocal parts), a prominent bass that does more to carry the melody than anything else, and a methodical percussion from a real drum set. While I will credit him for putting his own spin on the track, the result is a plodding bore that doesn’t get its message across as effectively as Jones’s version. Four years later, “Tennessee Whiskey” is a zombie that refuses to die, and beyond Stapleton’s vocal prowess, I don’t really see why. Stapleton generated a ton of buzz when he covered the song with Justin Timberlake on the CMA awards, but that was back in 2015, and at the time Mercury Records (which still seems to have no idea what to do with Stapleton) released “Nobody To Blame” as a single instead. That song? “Tennessee Whiskey,” a Dean Dillon/Linda Hargrove tune that was covered by both David Allan Coe and George Jones (the latter being the definitive version) in the early 1980s. I can’t say the same for Chris Stapleton: After the snorefest that was “Millionaire,” Stapleton fell off my radar completely, and hadn’t entered my mind at all this year until a song from his Traveller album suddenly reappeared on the airplay charts. I labeled Kane Brown a forgotten man in my review of “Homesick,” but at least I remembered he existed. Is there such a thing as waiting too long? Because Chris Stapleton’s about to find out. Be creative and you will learn to appreciate green tomatoes as much as ripe red ones. Sprinkle with freshly ground black pepper.Įnjoy as a side dish to any meal, turn it into party food, or turn it into a creamed soup. For optimum flavor you want the tomatoes cooked through and just beginning to brown a bit. The time will vary based on the tomato variety and the tomato size. Roast in a 300 degree oven for a couple of hours.A cookie sheet with sides is a good choice for this. Arrange in the tomatoes cut side up in a single layer on a large roasting pan.Toss the tomatoes well so that each is totally coated with oil.Pile the tomato halves in a large bowl and drizzle with a little olive oil and sprinkle with a bit of salt.Cut off the stem ends and slice in half longways.Select those rock-hard green tomatoes that you know will probably not ripen.Just move forward on this one! Roasted Green Tomatoes Steps You also begin remembering all those small green tomatoes gone to rot in the last several seasons. You wonder why no one ever told you about this before. However, they are remarkably tasty, shockingly tasty. While still in the roasting pan they look a bit like a drunken designer’s attempt at camouflage. Apparently she hadn’t either but she gave it a try and boasted of the result. Then somehow I came across You Grow Girl, who wrote about roasting green tomatoes. In the past, I let my small green tomatoes fall victim to frost and get dug into the garden as compost, not realizing the many uses for this green fruit. The second is late fall, just before a killing frost. Allow to thaw completely before re-heating over gentle heat in a saucepan. There are two great times in the season for green tomatoes: in July when you have a bumper crop and want to take advantage of the unique flavor of an unripe tomato. Transfer cooked and cooled tomato sauce into freezer bags or freezer safe containers/jars then freeze for up to 4 months. How to make tomato sauce from canned tomatoesįollow the recipe exactly as is, simply substitute fresh tomatoes with canned tomatoes. A neutral sweetener like sugar or xylitol works best as it doesn’t alter the flavor of the finished sauce at all. Tomatoes can be very acidic and the best way to cut the acidity is by adding a little sugar or sweetener. Season to taste then use or store for later. At this point you can break down the tomatoes with a potato masher or blend with an immersion blender until smooth. Turn the heat down and allow to simmer for 10-15 minutes until reduced. Add the roasted tomatoes along with smoked paprika, dried Italian herbs, salt and sugar (optional). The green tomato relish is ready when it looks like the photo below. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir it all together, bring the pan back to a boil, then lower it to medium heat. Make the sauce: In a medium pot or deep pan, fry onions and garlic in olive oil or butter until soft and translucent. Once the brine is mixed, add the drained vegetable mix of green tomatoes, onion, and red pepper. Place the tomatoes in a hot oven and allow to roast until the tomatoes have released their juices and their skins are starting to blister. Drizzle the tomatoes with olive oil and add garlic, herbs of your choice and a generous pinch of salt. Make sure they are ripe to get the most out of them. A variety of tomatoes will add even more flavor but using Roma tomatoes, cherry tomatoes or any one variety you can find is also fine. How to roast tomatoes for sauce: Place ripe tomatoes into a large roasting pan or rimmed baking sheet.I like adding a pinch of sugar to tomatoes to temper their acidity and bring out their natural sweetness. Tomatoes can handle a lot of salt so don’t be shy with the seasoning. Optional but adds a hum of heat which is delicious with the tomatoes. Dried oregano is also delicious and can be added to the pan when you cook the onions and garlic. Thyme, rosemary and fresh basil are all excellent with tomatoes. However, you can still make this with canned whole tomatoes. Use a variety to get the most flavor into your sauce. This sauce is undoubtedly the best when made with ripe summer tomatoes. 6 How to make easy roasted tomato sauce.3 How to make tomato sauce from canned tomatoes. Whether you’re concerned about your child’s processing speed or you’ve always wondered about your own cognitive processing, assessment is a great resource. We use the information you provide to inform our testing process in order to select the best assessments that provide you with clear, concise information. Through a comprehensive, customized battery of assessments, you’ll know for certain what your own or your child’s abilities are and what challenges you may face as well as receiving the data you’ll need to succeed professionally, academically, or socially. While the individual’s or parents’ perspectives as well as those of educators, caregivers, and others as appropriate are important, the comprehensive assessment battery performed by our skilled psychologists turns these observations into facts. Why Comprehensive Assessment is Essential Frequently interrupting other people who are talking.Impulsively acting without thinking through potentially negative consequences.Excessively talking but struggling to maintain a coherent stream of thought.Regularly starting complex projects and losing interest before completing them.Constantly fidgeting (tapping toes, pacing, swaying, etc.).Easily being distracted or having difficulty concentrating on a task. Some signs that your child is struggling with slow cognitive processing related to ADHD include: Slow processing speed is more often closely related to the person’s ability to concentrate or focus on tasks rather than an actually slower rate of processing complex information. They’re able to complete the tasks, but they need a little extra time. The main sign that someone is struggling with slow processing speed, as the name suggests, is that it takes them a little longer to complete tasks – from everyday activities to challenging ones. When it comes to telling the difference between ADHD and slow processing speed, we usually ask the individual being tested and/or the parents of children receiving assessments to think about the reasons behind their child’s behaviors. Individual or parental observations are an important part of the intake process when you visit our office for assessment. There are many warning signs of ADHD, and being able to appropriately identify these warnings can help clinicians and educators provide the best resources. In this blog, we’ll explore some of the possible warning signs that someone is struggling with slow processing speed or ADHD and how to tell the difference. Highly intelligent people may take longer to process information for a variety of reasons, including ADHD. It’s important to remember that, whether someone has slow cognitive processing or ADHD, neither condition is related to intelligence. In other cases, the slower processing speed can be unrelated to an ADHD diagnosis. In some people, slow processing speed (taking longer than others to complete tasks or thoughts) is an indicator of ADHD. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, often simply called ADHD, is a common condition that impacts many children and adults. “It has a reputation for being overly intense and scary and that drew my attention right way,” Page told Variety. After two years of auditioning, he was accepted into the prestigious Drama Centre London, where actors like Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, and Pierce Brosnan got their starts. Page studied at the Drama Centre London, like Pierce Brosnan and Emilia Clarke.Īccording to Interview Magazine, Page had been acting as a hobby ever since he moved to the U.K. “I found comfort in aggression, in breaking through false walls and challenging norms." Speaking to Square Mile, Page revealed that he and his brother still play music to this day. “As a teenager, the idea of running around, screaming at people was very appealing to me,” he told The Fall Mag. The punk movement appealed to Page's sensibility back then. Specifically, his hair rotated between blue, green, and purple. “We were writing loud, angry, righteous guitar music and screaming at people with various colors in our hair," Page told Interview Magazine. Page and his younger brother formed a punk band. When Page was 14, his family moved to north London. As a teenager in London, Page started a punk band with his brother. "You’re also not at the center of the universe in Zimbabwe, so you watch these important places like London or New York make their decisions and you ride the ripples of that as they become waves for the rest of the world. Growing up in Zimbabwe also gave Page a perspective that he retains to this day, even while living in L.A. “Being a mixed-race child in that environment means that you have to think about crafting your own identity and you question why you belong in that world." “Zimbabwe was still a relatively young country when I was living there and its post-apartheid society was only newly formed,” Page said. Speaking to The Guardian, Page elaborated on the experience. "Just by walking around with my face, I was saying, 'My parents did a fairly revolutionary thing that pisses off some of you,'" he said. Page said that being born to a mixed race couple in Zimbabwe made him “a walking political statement," per an interview with Interview Magazine. In 1990, Page was born in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, to a Zimbabwean nurse and an English preacher, per Square Mile. I think the fans of the books know that every episode is about a different sibling." Page credits his childhood in Zimbabwe with his perspective today. Dynevor revealed on the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast: "I had a bit of a heads up, so I knew. But in a recent interview with British GQ, he revealed he's not completely ruling out a potential cameo in the future. Page told Variety that he still had "excitement" for the future of the show, and its cast, despite the fact he wouldn't be moving forward with them. The news was announced in April to the shock of fans everywhere (which surprised Shonda Rhimes, herself). Unfortunately, as you very well most likely know, Page will not be returning to season 2 of Bridgerton. Even though the eyes of the world are on you, it’s that little bubble of honesty between those two characters." "You have this space to flirt and communicate in private. "I think when you spend that much time literally catching each other as you fall and flying through a room in each other’s arms, it’s a very, very efficient way to build an intimacy between performers," Page says. Speaking to Oprah Daily, Page, 30, says the crackling connection between Simon and Daphne was formed over "hours and hours" of dance rehearsals. It almost certainly served as a catapult for Page's career, who earned one of the show's 12 Emmy nominations in 2021 for lead actor in a drama series. While these principles can be challenging to apply at first, they can help you write code that is. By following these principles, you can create code that is easier to understand, easier to maintain, and easier to extend in the long run. Now let's get to the principles that have been embraced by the community, independent of the language you are working on. Clean code improves code quality and gives confidence in software development. It helps other engineers to get quicker in context. The YAGNI principle is closely related to the DRY principle, which states that developers should not duplicate code or functionality unnecessarily. These three acronyms represent concepts that can help streamline your development process as well as make your code simpler, cleaner, and more maintainable. As programmers, we strive to write clean, maintainable, and scalable code that not only solves the current problem but also stands the test of time. code is much more often read compared to written.
